Glutathione is an antioxidant that your body manufactures. An antioxidant – in case you’re unfamiliar with the term – is a molecule capable of donating an electron to an unstable molecule (usually of oxygen) known as a free radical, and in so doing stabilizing it.
The importance of this function cannot be overstated. Free radicals NEED to replace that missing electron and they will steal it from the closest molecule, which will in turn become another free radical…setting up a chain reaction of electron stealing that will inevitably lead to cell damage. Antioxidants stop the chain reaction and clean up this cellular waste.
Free radical damage is seen as one of the leading causes of premature aging. If you look at the skin of a life-long sunbather, you are looking at the cracked and wrinkled outcome of free radical damage. The same type of damage is occurring this moment in every cell and organ of your body and without the work of antioxidants – this damage will go unchecked. Antioxidants reduce cell damage, cellular inflammation, support the removal of toxins
There are many different antioxidants, but Glutathione is known as the Master Antioxidant for several reasons:
1- It is present in every cell of your body and can therefore play a major role to help protect and detoxify every major organ , particularly your heart, brain and liver.
2- It is a Network antioxidant that helps to rejuvenate other antioxidants like Vitamins C and E once they are “spent”.
You can’t take glutathione orally. Not only is the delicate cysteine portion damaged in the digestive system, the full glutathione molecule it actually too large to travel out of your gut to enter the bloodstream. It is actually made by your body and unfortunately, your ability to produce glutathione begins to decline by a factor of roughly 10% every ten years once you leave your twenties.
As your levels of glutathione decrease, waste material builds up in your cells – eventually creating a condition known as oxidative stress. This cellular damage sets up the immune system to trigger the inflammatory response, which long term continues to damage the cells and can create painful conditions like arthritis. But cellular damage is at the root of many other far more problematic conditions;
Glutathione deficiency have been found in people suffering from but not limited to, myalgic encephalomyelitis, chronic fatigue syndrome ME / CFS, fibromyalgia, HIV/AIDS, chemical and infectious hepatitis, prostate and other cancers, cataracts, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, radiation poisoning, malnutritive states, arduous physical stress, and aging, and has been associated with suboptimal immune response. Many other clinical pathologies are associated with oxidative stress.
The purpose of Dr Keller’s Original Glutathione Formula is to act as a glutathione precursor, which means that it provides your body with the building blocks needed to boost it’s own production of glutathione and this formula has been proven to increase glutathione levels by over 300% in a three month period.
While every person will react differently, people experiencing a glutathione increase will often report that they have better energy levels, are sleeping better and many will experience relief from inflammatory pain.
People undergoing chemotherapy should not try to raise their glutathione levels during treatment since one function of glutathione is to support detoxification and chemo is actually a toxin cocktail.
