I saw a great article talking about the early discovery of Cordyceps Sinensis – one of the ingredients in Dr Keller’s Original Glutathione Formula. Apparently, about 1500 years ago Yak herders noticed some rather distinctive behavior in the herds when the grazed in certain pastures at about 18,000 feet above sea levels. The yaks became more energetic and shall we say frisky? It didn’t take long to trace this behavior to a fungus that only appears in the spring – Cordyceps Sinensis.
For many years it remained accessible only to the Chinese emperors. Nowadays it is more universally accessible and many successful endurance athletes use it on a regular basis, taking a page from traditional Chinese medicine which has used Cordyceps for its powerful revitalizing properties. Cordyceps contains many active nutrients like cordycepin, amino acid, glutamic acid, vitamin B12, polysacharrides and others.
Cordyceps is believed to:
- Strengthen the immune system
- Increase libido, sperm count and fertility
- Detoxify your body
- Detoxify and protect your liver Promote DNA repair and thus combat aging and
- Ease symptoms of chronic bronchitis and asthma and rejuvenate the lungs
- Demonstrate potential anti-cancer activities
Cordyceps is also an anti-inflammatory agent and it is the anti-inflammatory activity of cordyceps that helps to increase and support glutathione levels. There has been considerable research into the potential antiaging properties of Cordyceps. Iin a study conducted on mice by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University, Cordyceps improved the brain function as evidenced by increased learning ability and improved memory and antioxidative enzyme activity in test subjects.
